The services of Nawab Mohsin-ul-Mulk regarding Tehreek-e-Pakistan cannot be forgotten. He was born on December 6, 1837. His real name was Mehdi Ali Khan. He started his early life with a very modest government job but as he progressed he became a Deputy Collector. This was the highest office in which an Indian could be appointed.
In 1874, he resigned from government service and, on the recommendation of Sir Syed, became the Nazim of Finance and Politics in the Muslim State of Hyderabad Deccan. He remained in the same state for at least twenty years and continued to perform high-level political services.
He retired in 1893 and settled permanently in Aligarh. Mohsin-ul-Mulk was literally Sir Syed’s successor. Even before Sir Syed’s death, he was a member of the Board of Trustees of Aligarh College.
In 1893 and 1896 he presided over the annual meetings of the Muslim Educational Conference. On the death of Sir Syed, he was elected Secretary of the Conference. On his initiative, the conference decided to establish at least one Islamic school in every district of the continent, and thus schools were established in many cities.
After the death of Sir Syed, when the number of students in Aligarh College decreased, the trustees elected Mohsin-ul-Mulk as secretary. He worked very hard and in a period of nine years the annual income of the college was Rs. 76000 to Rs: 100,000.
And the number of students reached 800 and in a period of five or six years a donation of Rs. 600,000 was collected for the Muslim University. Also, college fame began to reach new heights.
Nawab Mohsin-ul-Mulk also played a significant role in the formation of the Muslim League and arranged a Shimla delegation. He chose national leaders for this. Invited Sir Aga Khan to lead the delegation.
Nawab Mohsin-ul-Mulk became the secretary of the All India Muslim League in 1906. He and his brother Waqarul Mulk were asked to draft a constitution for the Muslim League.
